Letter From Our Director

Former Cobblestone teacher Paula Wooters is the current Director of the School after having taught Primary grades for eleven years.
It is my pleasure to welcome you to Cobblestone School. This is a special place, where children and teachers alike are engaged in their own learning. At Cobblestone children are encouraged to ask questions and try out new ideas. To this end, a large portion of our curriculum is based on the children's questions. Cobblestone is a very active place, with children becoming advocates for their own learning. The children and teachers are always trying out new things and making connections with previous understandings. As a community, we also take time to look at our inter-personal relationships and how we connect with the world around us. This creates an environment where the students see themselves not only as an integral part of our school community, but as members of the larger world community.

The teachers at Cobblestone bring their own personal passions to the classroom, whether those be studio art, science, music, dance, storytelling, travel, literature, or social activism, just to name a few. This creates an environment where teachers are challenged and engaged as well. Building your own curriculum is labor intensive, yet incredibly rewarding. This is not only a place "where children love to learn", but also a place where teachers love to teach.

Our parents complete the triangle of our learning partnership at Cobblestone and are active members of the school community. Whether it's helping out with lunch in the classroom, providing technology support, storytelling, making phone calls, being a room parent, or serving on one of the committees of our Board of Trustees, nearly every parent is engaged in some way.

We ask a lot of our students, our teachers, and our families, but the rewards are huge. In doing so we build a learning community that lasts a lifetime. Not surprisingly, our graduates come back regularly to interact with the school. Thank you for taking the time to visit our web site. We hope you'll choose to visit our school as well and consider becoming a member of our community.

Sincerely,
Paula Wooters, Director
